A monumental memorial on the field of the Battle of Kosovo of 1389.
Gazimestan is the place where the famous Battle of Kosovo took place in 1389.
The Battle
Prince Lazar Hrebeljanović led the Serbian army against the Ottoman forces of Sultan Murad I.
Monument
A tower of red marble, 25 metres high, was erected in 1953. At the top of the tower is an eagle with outspread wings.
Significance
The most important site of Serbian national identity and historical memory.
