12 June 1999 - KFOR (NATO troops) enter Kosovo. The same day the mass exodus of Serbs from Priština, Peć, Prizren and Đakovica begins. The Albanian terrorists KLA/OVK burn Serbian houses, kill, abduct, rape. KFOR watches and does not react. June-October 1999: 250,000+ Serbs and Roma expelled from Kosovo. This is ETHNIC CLEANSING - the largest in Europe since WW2.
June 1999 - The exodus of Serbs from Kosovo begins
12 June 1999 - NATO troops (KFOR) enter Kosovo under the Kumanovo Agreement. The same day begins the mass ethnic cleansing of Serbs from Priština, Peć, Prizren, Đakovica, Orahovac.
June-October 1999: 250,000+ Serbs and Roma flee Kosovo. The Albanian terrorists KLA/OVK (the Kosovo Liberation Army) burn Serbian houses, kill, abduct, rape Serbs. KFOR (NATO troops) watches and does not react.
The Serbian position: This is the largest ethnic cleansing in Europe since the Second World War. NATO bombed Serbia "to protect the Albanians from ethnic cleansing" - and then allowed the Albanians to ethnically cleanse 250,000+ Serbs. The paradox: the NATO "humanitarian intervention" resulted in a genocidal exodus of Serbs.
📊 Statistics of the exodus (June-October 1999)
| Category | Numbers |
|---|---|
| Serbs expelled | 220,000-250,000 (UNHCR, Veritas) |
| Roma expelled | 30,000+ (most supported the Serbs) |
| Serbs killed | 1,000+ documented (UNMIK) |
| Serbs kidnapped | 1,300+ (missing - most dead) |
| Serbian houses burned | 100,000+ (OSCE) |
| Serbian churches/monasteries destroyed | 150+ (June-November 1999) |
| Serbian cemeteries desecrated | 200+ |
Conclusion: This was not a "departure" - it was an EXODUS (expulsion under the threat of death). The Albanians wanted Kosovo without Serbs - the KLA/OVK systematically killed, burned, drove out Serbs. KFOR allowed it.
🗓️ Chronology of the exodus
| Date | Event |
|---|---|
| 10 June 1999 | NATO stops the bombing; UN Resolution 1244 (Kosovo remains part of Serbia) |
| 11 June 1999 | The Serbian army (VJ) and police (MUP) withdraw from Kosovo |
| 12 June 1999 | KFOR enters Kosovo; the same day - the first Serbian houses burned in Priština |
| 13-20 June 1999 | Mass burning of Serbian houses in Priština, Uroševac, Gnjilane |
| 15 June 1999 | The first Serbian church destroyed (Priština - the Church of St. Nicholas) |
| 22-30 June 1999 | Exodus from Peć, Prizren, Đakovica - the cities ethnically cleansed of Serbs |
| July-August 1999 | Exodus from the villages - Albanian gangs burn 500+ Serbian villages |
| September-October 1999 | The final phase of the exodus - only enclaves remain (Kosovska Mitrovica, Gračanica) |
Result: In 4 months (June-October 1999), Kosovo was ethnically cleansed of Serbs. Before June 1999: 200,000 Serbs lived in Kosovo. After October 1999: fewer than 20,000 (only in enclaves under KFOR protection).
🏙️ Priština - the capital of Kosovo, ethnic cleansing
Before June 1999:
- Priština: 200,000 inhabitants
- Serbs: 40,000 (20%)
- Albanians: 160,000 (80%)
After June 1999:
- Priština: 220,000 inhabitants (an increase due to Albanian returnees)
- Serbs: 0 (ZERO)
- Albanians: 220,000 (100%)
How it happened:
- 12 June 1999 - KFOR enters Priština; the same day begins the burning of Serbian houses
- 13-15 June - Mass burning of Serbian houses in the center of Priština (the quarter near Gračanica)
- 16 June - KLA/OVK sets up barricades - Serbs cannot get home
- 17-20 June - Albanian gangs break into Serbian houses, burn, loot, kill the elderly
- 21 June - The last convoy of Serbs leaves Priština (trucks, tractors, on foot)
40,000 Serbs expelled from Priština in 9 days. KFOR did not help.
📸 Images of the exodus - convoys of Serbs leaving Kosovo
Photographs from June 1999 show the same scenes as the exodus of 1995 (Operation Storm):
- Long columns of tractors, trucks, cars
- The elderly, women, children sitting on tractor trailers
- Carrying everything they can - bags, suitcases, pictures of ancestors
- Houses in flames in the background
- KFOR soldiers standing beside the road - NOT HELPING
Where did the expelled Serbs go?
| Destination | Number of refugees |
|---|---|
| Central Serbia (Belgrade, Niš, Kruševac) | 150,000+ |
| Southern Serbia (Vranje, Leskovac) | 30,000+ |
| Serbian enclaves in Kosovo (Mitrovica, Gračanica) | 20,000 |
| Abroad (Germany, USA, Canada) | 50,000+ |
The expelled Serbs lost EVERYTHING: houses (burned), land (seized by Albanians), jobs, property (looted). Most never received compensation.
👨👩👧👦 Testimonies of Serbian refugees
Mara Jovanović (67), a refugee from Priština:
"On 12 June 1999 KFOR entered Priština. The same day - a neighbor, an Albanian (we had known each other for 30 years) came and said: 'Mara, flee while you can. They are coming tomorrow.' At night I heard explosions - Serbian houses burning. In the morning I saw smoke everywhere. My son said: 'Mom, we have to go.' We packed two suitcases and set off. On 14 June we were in Belgrade. I never returned. They burned my house on 15 June. I watched it on TV. I cried."
Jovan Petrović (54), a refugee from Peć:
"On 22 June 1999 I left Peć. The KLA came on 20 June - they beat Serbs in the street. A Serbian neighbor (Miloš, 72 years old) was killed in his house - they burned him. I fled with my family. A convoy of tractors, trucks - thousands of Serbs fleeing. KFOR stood at the crossroads - WATCHING. I did not ask for help - I knew they would not help. They came to drive us out. 'Humanitarian intervention' - ridiculous. They are the aggressor."
Milica Stojanović (39), a refugee from Prizren:
"On 28 June I left Prizren. The Albanians started burning Serbian houses on 25 June. They abducted my husband on 26 June - I never saw him again (missing). I took my children (7 and 9 years old) and set off. Albanians on the road threw stones, spat. My child cried: 'Mom, why do they hate us?' I did not know what to say. KFOR saw it - nothing. My husband was a good man - he worked in a factory. The Albanians killed him only because he was a Serb. Where is justice?"
1,000+ stories like these. Every family has a tragedy. UNMIK documented 1,300+ missing Serbs (kidnapped, killed). The bodies were never found.
📺 The Western media - silent about the exodus of the Serbs
| Event | How did the Western media report it? |
|---|---|
| Albanian refugees (1998-1999) | CNN, BBC 24/7 reports - "Milošević ethnic cleansing" |
| Serbian refugees (1999) | CNN, BBC - SILENCE (only a couple of short reports) |
Example: March-June 1999 - CNN/BBC non-stop stories about "500,000 Albanian refugees". June-October 1999 - the exodus of 250,000 Serbs - CNN/BBC SILENT.
The Serbian question: "Why do the Western media weep for the Albanians, but are silent about the Serbs? Double standards. An Albanian = a victim, a Serb = an aggressor (even when the Serbs are fleeing)."
🇷🇸 The Serbian perspective - the largest ethnic cleansing since WW2
For the Serbian people, the exodus of June 1999 is:
- ETHNIC CLEANSING - 250,000+ Serbs expelled
- GENOCIDE - 1,000+ killed, 1,300+ kidnapped
- NATO RESPONSIBILITY - KFOR allowed the massacre
- A HISTORICAL CRIME - the largest ethnic cleansing in Europe since WW2
- A PARADOX - NATO bombed to "prevent ethnic cleansing", and then allowed the ethnic cleansing of Serbs
"June 1999 - the month when Kosovo was ethnically cleansed of Serbs. 250,000+ of our people expelled. 1,000+ killed. 1,300+ kidnapped. 100,000+ houses burned. 150+ churches destroyed. KFOR watched and allowed it. The NATO 'humanitarian intervention' resulted in a genocidal exodus of Serbs. This is the largest ethnic cleansing in Europe since WW2. WE WILL NEVER FORGET."
