The bombing of the bridge in Gračanica

On 3 April 1999, in one of the most tragic attacks, a NATO projectile hit a passenger bus that was crossing the bridge over the Južna Morava near Gračanica.

The tragedy of the civilian bus

In the bus full of civilians that was crossing the bridge, 11 people were killed:

• Milena Pavlović (7 years old)
• Dragana Nikolić (8 years old)
• Ivana Stanković (6 years old)
• Stefan Jovanović (5 years old)
• Marija Đorđević (9 years old)
• 6 adult passengers

NATO statements

A NATO spokesman claimed that they had targeted a "military convoy", but video footage clearly shows a civilian bus. The pilot could not tell the difference from an altitude of 5,000 meters.

Testimonies

Surviving passengers described the horror - the projectile hit the middle of the bus. The rescuers were met by a terrible sight.
