Bombing of Novi Beograd - Block 21

On 17 May 1999, NATO bombed residential Block 21 in Novi Beograd, killing 10 civilians.

Targeting a densely populated area

Block 21 is one of the most densely populated areas of Belgrade, with over 50,000 residents.

Victims

10 civilians were killed in their flats:

• The Marković family (3 members)
• The Jovanović family (2 members)
• 5 individual victims

Panic among the population

Thousands of people left the block after the attack, dispersing across the city to stay with relatives.
