First attacks on Priština, the capital of Kosovo. The airport and military facilities were targeted; civilians perished in the city center.
On 28 March 1999, NATO carried out massive attacks on Priština. In addition to the military airfield, facilities in the very center of the city were targeted.
Targeting of civilian facilities
In addition to the Slatina military airfield, missiles hit:
- Residential buildings in the center of Priština
- The "Grand" Hotel (a civilian facility)
- Business buildings on Mother Teresa Boulevard
Victims
At least 8 civilians were killed in the attacks, including 2 children. More than 30 people were wounded. Most of the victims were Albanians who had not managed to flee the city.
Panic among the population
Thousands of residents left the city. Civilian infrastructure (hospitals, schools) was severely hit, which further worsened the humanitarian crisis.
