Second Bombing of Prizren - continued destruction of cultural heritage

NATO bombs Prizren again. Additional damage to the Church of the Holy Saviour (Sveti Spas) and monasteries. 5 civilians killed.

On 9 May 1999, NATO bombed Prizren for the second time, causing additional damage to cultural monuments that had already been hit.

Systematic destruction

Additionally damaged structures:

  • The Church of the Holy Saviour (Sveti Spas) (14th century) - additional damage to the frescoes
  • The Monastery of the Holy Archangels (Sveti Arhangeli)
  • The old bazaar (16th-17th century)

Civilian casualties

5 civilians were killed:

  • Jovan Petrović (68 years old)
  • Fatmir Shala (42 years old, Albanian)
  • Dragica Nikolić (55 years old)
  • Ramiz Krasniqi (36 years old, Albanian)
  • Milica Đorđević (49 years old)

UNESCO silence

Despite the evident destruction of world cultural heritage, UNESCO took no measures.
