The Battle of Kolubara 1914

The first Allied victory in the First World War - the Serbian army repelled Austria-Hungary.

The Battle of Kolubara was fought from 3 to 15 December 1914 and represents one of the greatest Serbian military victories.

Context

After three Austro-Hungarian offensives against Serbia, the army was exhausted. The Austro-Hungarians had managed to capture Belgrade and much of the country.

Significance

This was the first Allied victory in the First World War. Serbia was liberated and Austria-Hungary humiliated.
