A German concentration camp in Niš through which more than 30,000 prisoners passed.
The Crveni Krst camp (Red Cross camp) operated from 1941 to 1944 as a German concentration camp.
Conditions
Prisoners were held in appalling conditions, tortured and starved. Many were sent from here to be shot at Bubanj.
The breakout of 12 February 1942
A group of inmates organised the famous breakout from the camp. Of the 147 participants, 105 survived.
Memorial
Today the site is a museum with the original barracks and an exhibition.
