The cemetery of Serbian soldiers fallen on the Salonika Front, the most important place of remembrance outside Serbia.
Zejtinlik is a Serbian military cemetery in Thessaloniki where more than 8,000 Serbian soldiers who fell on the Salonika Front are buried.
The Salonika Front
After the Albanian Golgotha and its recovery on Corfu, the Serbian army fought on the Salonika Front from 1916 to 1918. Thousands of soldiers fell in the battles of liberation.
The Memorial Ossuary
The monumental ossuary was built in 1936. White marble, Orthodox crosses, and the names of the fallen fighters.
Significance
It is the most important place of remembrance for the Serbian victims of the First World War outside Serbia. Commemorations are held there every year.
