A memorial to the victims of the horrific raid carried out by the Hungarian fascists in 1942.
In January 1942 the Hungarian occupation forces carried out mass raids in Novi Sad and its surroundings.
The raid
Between 21 and 23 January more than 1,300 Serbs, Jews and Roma were killed. People were seized in the streets and shot on the ice of the Danube.
Methods
The victims were bound, shot and thrown through holes in the ice of the Danube. Among them were women, children and the elderly.
Memorial
The monument on the Quay to the victims of the raid preserves the memory of this horrific crime.
